    Hello,

I am trying to learn how to utilize masking better on my own and had a hard time when I was trying to animate an arrow passing through letters in a word. I used the word DAY and i want the arrow to pass thru the hole in the D and come out the hole in the A and back behind the Y. I tried using one mask the shape of the arrow on the text layer and moving the mask point and path to get what I wanted. I had a hard time doing this because the arrow was too long so I tried a mask the shape of the arrow head and a separate mask on the shape of the arrow body. In this attempt the masks were acting all funky like when i would change the opacity of the body it would change the opacity of the word instead of the body. and when i tried to change the opacity of the arrow head it changed the body opacity. also moving the shape of the mask did nothing wheter it was inversed or not with 2 masks.

does anyone have any tips on this kind of stuff? I am stuck and I am sure that when I get into the job industry, I am going to get asked to do stuff like this.

“I’m pretty sure you can’t make a mask directly on a text layer”

I’m pretty sure you can 🙂
