  • Masking an Effect, not the layer (Chroma Key)

So I need to mask a Chroma Key, it isnt typical where someone is in front of a green background. It is the opposite. A green square in the scene with people crossing, like the typical replace a computer screen with another shot. Masking the layer kills everything outside the mask, not just the key. Need to mask only the effect, but that isnt something I can find in AE.
I know a workaround is to layer the footage back on top and mask it to cover areas that need the effect masked, but using 8K red files, I am adding a lot more pixels to process. I would rather just mask the effect region…

    Thoughts?
