Whenever I change the opacity of my subtract mask to 0%, the entire frame changes to 0%. Why is this happening? the frame transform setting is always at 100% opacity. I’m ripping my hair out.

The ‘subtract’ mode for AE masks does not work in a way that really makes sense logically. If you want to make it work more intuitively try applying an add mask to your entire image first (you can double click the rectangular mask tool to do this) then apply your subtract mask and adjust its opacity.

Oh cool, thanks so much. What I ended up doing was just cut and paste the mask into a solid white shape layer and did a luma track matte, it produced the same result just with like 4 extra steps lol. I’ll try that add/subtract method though, thanks so much. I wonder why the subtract mode isn’t what it appears.
