i’m trying to make a short clip with a football helmet that has a sword come down and stick in the helmet. when i move the sword in the screen the mask moves with it. how can i get the mask to stay in the same place as the sword comes into the screen? or is there a way to put the mask on the helmet and affect the sword layer as it comes in. seems like i’ve had this problem before but i can’t remember how i got around it. any help is appreciated. thanks

Have two helmet layers, with the sword sliding in-between. Mask the upper helmet layer so you can see the sword, well, until you don’t want to see the sword.

So I guess the mask would allow you to see the sword below up until the point where it enters the helmet — at that point you’d let the upper helmet layer cover the sword, no?

or you could use your mask on a separate layer and use that layer as a track matte for the sword layer…

it’s the same amout of work, and the same result, just another way to work…
