  • Mask doesn’t have “add” or “subtract” button

I have a recurring problem: When drawing a mask in CS3, the Mask dropdown menu often doesn’t have the “add,” “subtract,” etc choices. Does anyone have a suggestion? Often I will delete the mask, draw a new one, and the choices are there. Thanks!

in the timeline, at the far bottom left, there are 3 icons, play with those a bit to make sure you have all data turned on. also, in the timeline, right-click (command+click) on where it says “Source Name” and make sure columns/Modes is checked off

Mask Modes are only available for closed paths/shapes. Perhaps this is your issue?

Just had the problem and found this thread. For me, it was that I had not actually competed the mask. I was drawing one using the pen tool, and got close but not right on the starting mask point, so if you have the lack of “add” “subtract” options, be sure you closed the mask.
