  • Mask appears in different location in the preview window

Posted by Lucien Vaillancourt on February 10, 2025 at 11:27 pm

When I create a mask in the event pan crop workspace the mask does not appear in the same location on the clip in the preview window. The curser is synched. The mask even seems to be somewhat skewed. I can’t figure out why this is happening. I spent quite some time masking each frame only to discover this problem. The goal is to have my hand and arm reaching through the phone. Here are some screen shots. Anyone have any ideas?

    Hey Lucien,

I believe this issue happens because the crop is being applied to a 1080×1920 (vertical) video, while the project settings are set to 1920×1080 (horizontal). This mismatch causes the mask to appear misaligned and skewed in the preview. To fix it, set your project resolution to match the video’s resolution (1080×1920) or adjust the Pan/Crop settings accordingly.

Let me know how it goes! ^^

If you would rather change the video resolution instead of the project resolution, you could right click inside the Pan/Crop frame and then select Match Output Aspect.

Thank you for the fast reply. I changed the project resolution to 1080 x 1920 but the problem is still there.

I right clicked insided the pan crop workspace but do not see an option to match project settings.

Make sure you’re on the “Position Tab”, and the options I circled are checked. After that you can right click and choose “Match output aspect”. Let me know if that worked.

I switched from mask to position in the pan crop window and was able to change the resoltion to 1080 x 1920 to match the project settings but the problem persists.

Have you been working on Track Motion, too? If you have that enabled it might interfere with the position.

I don’t think so. I actually don’t know how to do that. Is it something I could have done by accident in the event pan crop window?
