Sorry for a repost, but I really need some help, and it seems like everyone else’s posts have been answered. So, this is my original question:

I was recently going through Mark Simpson’s “How to make a tree grow” with the Lightning effect, and then with the Foam effect. I think its a really cool idea how to utilize those effects. However, I am having trouble with the foam effect getting my source video “leaves.mov” to open correctly under the render tab of Foam. The problem is that when it uses the video to render the leaves, the whole white screen containing the leaves opens up, rather than just the leaves by themselves. So, when i play it back, instead of a bunch of leaves growing, it looks like a bunch of little square screens with leaves in the middle are growing. Does that make sense? Could someone please help me out? This would also be useful for using a source video in the particle playground effect. Thanks!

Once again, I am sorry, but I have been having trouble with this issues for a while now. I would really appreciate the help! Thanks!

If I understand you correctly, you are using a movie as your custom bubble. If you do use a movie as a custom bubble, Foam will only use the first frame – all other frames are discarded. But your issue with the squarish bubbles should be due to a lack of an Alpha Channel in your custom bubble.

Great, Thanks! I will give it a shot just using one frame. It should have fairly the same effect, I think. But I am just confussed, because the tutorial went through in detail how to make the movie, and then use the movie as the bubble. But still, it didnt work. I also watched another tutorial that was through particle playground that used a movie to replace the particles. I know my movie used an alpha channel, but it might have been lost rendering it as a .mov. Am I on track with this at all?

My bad. You’re right, I just made a quick check and YOU CAN use a movie as a Custom Bubble. Now all you need is to ensure that it has an Alpha Channel.

Ok, well… I went ahead and did it just with a still picture, and it really doesn’t look that much different as compared to using a movie. But for future references, I would like to know how to integrate a movie into it… and I know I used an alpha channel. I must be missing something simple. Thanks for the help!

I tried it earlier with a movie and the mechanics are essentially the same for a still image. Perhaps you’d want to check yourmovie to ensure that it has an Alpha Channel.
