First thing to do is confirm that that gap you see isn’t simply being added by your media player. What app are you using to view the resulting file?

Based on your screencaps, I created a similar file — 1024×768, empty backgroud, big honkin’ “J” aligned to the right side. When I view the rendered file (AVI using the Sony YUV codec) in Video Lan Player, there is no gap. Same file in Windows Media Player has a gap on the right. This “border” isn’t part of the video — it’s part of the WMP window. If that’s the case, there’s nothing you can do in Vegas — you just need to fiddle with your media player’s settings until it conforms to the size of your video.

If this is not the case, you’ll need to tell us more about your project. Of special importance might be what pixel aspect ratio is in your project properties, what pixel aspect ratio are you using in your render, and what video format is the render?

For what it’s worth, if this video is intended to be played on television sets, most of this will be moot. Most TVs cut off an unspecied portion of the video being displayed on them, so you can never guarantee that anything will be “aligned” with the edge of the screen. Computer monitors don’t, for the most part, have this problem.

What you say makes a lot of sence and yes I am using windows media player, but the video like you said is supposed to be in 1024×768, the same as my screen resolution, but when I put windows media player on full screen I still see the gap

Okay, but you still need to confirm whether that gap you see is part of the video or just part of the interface (even if you’re in full screen). For all I know, your project was 1024×768, but your file was rendered as something else.

Play the file in another media player (VLC, Quicktime, etc) to see if the gap is still there. Or, better yet, try putting a color other than black in the background of your video since black is usually the background for most media player. If you do that, and the “J” is aligned to the edge of that color, and you still see a black gap, you know that the gap isn’t part of your video. On the other hand, if you see a gap of your new background color, then you can be sure that the “J” is not properly aligned.

Also, I didn’t see any answers to my questions about pixel aspect ratios or the render format of your video.

I added a video in the background because im having the same problem with media gens which wouldn’t make a difference and it is in fact not merging with the side so there is a gap.

pixel aspect ratio: 0.9091 (NTSC DV)
render format: wmv

I fixed the pixel aspect ratio to be 1.000 and now the preview shows exactly how I see after I render, including the gap, but when I try to align the J with the right margin it cuts off at the point the gap begins
