  • Mapping video to grid. (smoke face)

Hi there. I am trying to make a face made out of smoke in After Effects and am not quite succeeding. I am thinking if I can map a grid (luminance based?) to my keyed face video I may be able to map a smoke element to the grid. Or better yet, mapping a smoke element to the luminance or alpha values of the footage itself. Is there a way to do either of these? Displacement map doesn’t appear to work this way. And I have been unable to make a mesh grid that maps to the face.

I also have trapcode form and am able to map particles to the face with that. It looks ok but I am unable to make the particles appear smokey, it looks more like a face made out of white dots (kinda like tv noise)
Any suggestions here would be much appreciated.

    Thank you

    Regards

    Conan
