  • Mapping a travel video across the US

Posted by Greg Ball on June 13, 2008 at 3:12 pm

I’m working on editing a video which documents traveling to different cities in the US. I remember seeing a program by Apple where you can have red line travel across a map and save it as a QT file.
Does anybody know where I can find that program? Thanks.

Standard technique, conventional application. You don’t need anything special, you’re simply drawing a line in Motion or you’re importing a line with an alpha that is a layer from your map artwork done in PS or Illustrator. You reveal the line with a matte or a wipe.

what sets such conventions off from the pack are stylized fills for the map, a plane or car that leaves a trail, placing the line above the map in 3d space, using lines applied to spherical objects to depict air travel, and the points at which stops are made. Rent a couple of travelogues and deconstruct the best techniques.

Thanks Dave, but I remember seeing an actual program that created a quicktime movie. That’s what I’m looking for. I don’t have time to create everything from scratch.

This may not solve your question,
but it gives a method for making a traveling line on a map.
    Good luck.

By the time you research, download these filters, pay for them, learn how to use them, and decide they’re not what you really need to satisfy your client’s needs, you could have created the flat artwork yourself or used the Replicator in Motion more than once.

Yeh, but since I did the research you’ll have to give Greg a discount.
