Do you have a foreign keyboard? If not, don’t select it. Select the ‘button to menu’ radio button. Click the key on your keyboard. The cursor should turn into a little square. Go to the menu item you want to map – click on it. You are done. If you want to map items from the command pallette (cntrl + 3, or tools>command pallette) select the ‘button to button’ button (who’s got the button…)

Some menu items are context sensitive, so you have to set up the conditions before you can map it. In this case, you need a sequence in the timeline with In and Out points set to make Render In-Out selectable for mapping. There are some others like this, such as Load Filler which needs the source monitor to be the current active window before you can map it.
