Maltaanon – problems anyone?
Craig Wall
February 23, 2009 at 9:22 amI know this is a community that looks out for one another…and can solve problems we may share.
Last week I purchased a product called Screenfiy from Maltaanon. It basically is a preset, and I laid down $14 bucks for it.
I expected to download a little .ffx file – but what I got was a file that required download of his own Adobe Air installer. Well the installer just returned an error code on my Mac.
So I e-mail him. No response.
I look at his support thread and there is a long-line of people who cannot install the product–going back to late last year. And the thread contains no helpful replies. No resolution. Those who have this problem are just hosed.
I am puzzled because I thought Maltaanon was a reliable fixture in the community but this is not good.
Well I write this for the following reasons.
1. As a warning about product support if you purchase his products
2. As an appeal to Jerry (Maltaanon) – kill the dang/silly installer and send your customers the (20 kilobyte) preset they bought!
3. As a shout out to others who have suffered the same fate.Life is full of funny particles.

February 23, 2009 at 7:48 pmHey Guys –
From one content provider to another, I’d say give the guy a chance to respond and extend him a little grace. I’m not here to defend anyone, but as a guy who runs a small shop himself I know the pressures of trying to be the sales, marketing, and PR teams while trying to run a production studio.

Yes.
A solo shop is a tough thing, and so many things can interfere. I know of one European designer (that does amazing 3d terrain software) who had a serious car accident and people were all put out because he hadn’t responded on his website.
At the same time I saw that people had posted similar installation problems going back two months ago. I don’t even see why a product like a training video or a preset needs an installer.
I feel when you take somebody’s money you have an obligation to make sure the product 1) gets to the client and 2) at least works.
I have little doubt it’s a fine little tool he created–but I bought it for a project I need NOW.

Jerry apologized and e-mailed me the preset.
