  • Making the background tranparent on a Text layer?

I decided to try and get more used to AE as I have had it for 6 months now and still am not using it as I hope to. So last night at around 1:00AM I decide to create my ending credits segment in AE. Nothing fancy just text and the decode text animation. But the problem is that I cannot figure out how to get the background transparent (in AE) so you can see the video that is in the timeline below over in my editing software. I clicked the transparency icon at the bottom of the comp but it only does it for the work area and not the rendered final product. Any help greatly appreciated.

Are you choosing to render with an alpha channel in the Render Queue? In the Output Modules section choose a format that supports an alpha channel, Animation for example, and make sure that the depth is set to Millions of Colors+

So can I choose “lossless with alpha” or “Animated GIF”?

What you choose depends on your output requirements. If you are reimporting the movie choose Lossless with Alpha. You want to keep any prerenders uncompressed so that your final render will be at the highest possible quality.
