  • Making SD footage look sharp

Posted by Ron Pestes on August 28, 2011 at 6:11 pm

I made an error setting up a KiPro last weekend and ended up recording ProRes in SD. Since I am being paid well for this shoot I am wondering if there is a way to make this footage a little sharper without introducing grain. I have three seminars in SD and one in HD so I need to make them look as close as possible. Final delivery is for DVD and the web.

My question is should I put the SD footage on an HD timeline to up rez it or add a little sharpening? Or is there anything else I can do to make it look better. I have used the Color Corrector 3 way filter and added a little contrast but what else should I do? Thanks for all advice.

Check out the demo of the Neat Video noise reduction filter.

I’d probably go in the other direction… Cut everything as SD widescreen format and perhaps the client will never know the difference.

    Upsacale, then downscale?
    Never.
Edit everything in SD. You are going DVD.
