I think I’ve come to a compromise with the scene. I was messing around the instancer, but it was too poly heavy, so I upped the AA on the hair and increased the segments. Looks a little better, not exactly what I wanted, but not bad either.

have you tried setting the hair to Generate splines and Sweep a circle along those?

Not a bad idea at all. Is there a way I can get a circular tip to my hair? Right now it’s flat using a circle spline.
    thanks

I think you are using the Circle option in the Generate tab of the Hair? I was thinking of using the Spline option (which generates only splines – no visible hair at all) and place the Hair object and a Circle Spline into a SweepNurb. You can control the shape of the sweeepnurb with the Object tab Detail/Scale setting. You’d have to increase the hair’s Guide segments to get some good control over the tip. That may be too much geometry depending on what you have in the scene and your hardware but a quick test looked pretty good here. I can’t send that file now but I could later.

Thanks Brian. I think I got a similar result, but wouldn’t mind seeing the file as well.

After testing it’s difficult to not have a bit of a point with the Sweep method but the right texture can help a bit. I tried something else using spline wrap with a cloned capsule to align along the hairs. It’s pretty slow in 10.5 but not too bad in 13.
