Ok i have a sketch that I want to trace into illustrator CS3. I used Live trace to trace it, then converted to a Live Draw so I could manipulate the vector points. However what I was hoping to do seems more complex. Its a drawing of a cartoon character, so how would I make groups or objects that I can ‘fill’ with color? Like his hair should be one object/group/whatever its called, and his head should be another, etc. How would I go about doing that?

Maybe try the Pathfinder Tools (Window/Pathfinder).
There are a lot of functions there, so experiment. If you’re trying to make a bunch of objects into one object…
    1-Select all of the objects.
2-Click the Add To Shape Area button.
At this point, the process is still editable.
To finalize the function click Object/Expand Appearance. Or, you could Alt+Click as you are clicking on the Pathfinder/Add… button.

Pressing Ctrl+Y (View/Outlines) to view your outlines helps, so you can see everything that you are doing.
