To answer your question…the PopDrops templates are simply layered Photoshop .PSD files. The difference in regards to “compatibility” is that Adobe Encore DVD “sees” Photoshop files different than any other DVD Authoring software I’ve used…in that it sees all the layers intact…not as a flattened file. Because of that we created the layer sets in the way Encore will automatically recognize certain layers as buttons (they’re not Encore specific templates, it’s just how Encore sees them…they really are just Photoshop files).
In no way does this mean an Architect user can’t use them…it just means you may have to make some tweaks within Photoshop to get the result you want. I do understand that the latest version of Architect announced at NAB will handle Photoshop layers…I’m just not sure if it handles them in the same way as Encore. Ultimately, what I tell people is that if you have Encore only…you don’t need any other software to use PopDrops, but if you use any other application, you’ll at least need Adobe Photoshop to make some minor tweaks to the .PSD templates. SO…as long as you can manipulate a .PSD file, you’re good to go.
All my best,
