    Hello!

I just wonder how to make good quality dvds. I`m using Sony vegas 7 and dvd architect 3. I tried to use the vasst freeware tool, but I think the audio was pretty bad. Maybe I do something wrong? I think it was very easy to use the Vasst tool, so I was kind of dissapointed when the audio was so bad.

I think the best way to make dvds is to render as mpeg 2 with constant bitrate on 8000. when I burn it in from dvd architect I use the PCM audio instead of AC3. Should I prepare the audio in another program?

Do anyone have a better way to do this.

I don’t know about the VASST tool you mentioned. If you have short movie and plenty of room on your DVD, then PCM uncompress 48khz audio will be best. If you want to save some space, set the audio as AC3. I’ve never had any bad audio issue with any of them.

You might want to check that your audio levels are not too high. Check the master level of your audio in your project(at least -10). Sometime the sound is ok on the computer, but when played on a tv set, the audio will distort if set too high.

Vegas started off at version 1.0 as a multi-track audio-only editor and I know folks who have produced commercial CDs using only Vegas so it can’t be blamed for poor audio.

What’s your definition of “bad audio”?
    Too soft?
    Too loud?
    Too distorted?
A little more information would help us to help you get the most out of it.

I know folks who have received Grammy and Emmy awards using Vegas for audio….:-)
Vegas relies on the audio card in the system, and ability of the operator, if either is weak…so shall be the final outcome.

Can you specifically describe what it is that you’re dissatisfied with?

I wasn`actually blaming Vegas for bad audio. It was the Vasst-tool that made the audio problem. I think that was a really good tool, so I wanted it to work. When I used it, the sound seemed kind of cheap, kind of hollow. When I use The PCM option in dvd architect it`s no problem.

I just wanted to hear if someone else had expirienced the same problem. And as I said earlier, it was not meant to be an attack on Vegas.

The VASST tools merely call out aspects of what is already in Vegas. Can you be specific as to which preset/tool you used? For example, if you used one of the echo-reducing tools, it would likely make your audio sound pretty hollow. It’s typically a good idea to listen through various passages after applying any plugin, audio or video, to find any anomolies caused by using the plugin.
