  • Making dubs from 1400 deck to HVX200

Is there a way to dub an DVCProHD tape to DV via firewire to tape on the HVX. I set the 1400 up with the correct menu settings for 720p to DV according to their chart (and it works great with FCP), but the HVX is not receiving a signal. Is there something in the HVX I need to adjust?

Make sure the HVX is in “tape” mode, and in VCR mode…

It is in Tape/VCR mode. I just get a blue screen.

Are you sending it DV data? If the deck is outputting DV, and the camera’s receiving DV, it should definitely show up on the LCD. Try a different firewire cable maybe?

Definitely sending a dv signal because when I connect it to my desktop I can capture dv in fcp using the dv input preset.

Tried a different cable but with no luck.

Do you know for a fact that the firewire port on the HVX200 works? That it didn’t get “blown out” by hot-plugging into a six-pin firewire port on the computer?

I’m not sure what to tell you; firewire input definitely works on the HVX200, in all modes. You can firewire HD to it, or DV50, or DV. If your deck is configured to export DV, and the camera tape/p2 switch is set to “tape” mode, and the mode button is set to VCR, then it should be working.

I know that it works because I just used it to lay something to DV tape from FCP. If I plugged another DV unit (like the consumer DV deck from panasonic) to the 1400 should it work? Because I’ve tried it with no luck. So it seems to be something with the 1400, but like I said it works with FCP when trying to capture DV from an HD tape.
