My foray into Cinema 4D is to build models to 3D print for model railways – specifically Hornby 00 gauge. Today I tried to make a railway station platform that would follow the curved line of a R609 piece of track which is 505mm radius and 45°. Modelling the shape I have mostly mastered, but it never comes out at the right curvature when printed.

So far I have tried using a cube and a deformer to bend it, and an arc spline with a sweep nurbs of a rectangle. I would have though setting these basic values would be accurate, but obviously I am missing something?

I am not attempting to print the full 505mm in one go; My max print size is 220mm x 220mm. aAny clues?

    TIA.

Check unit settings, slicer scaling, and print shrinkage. Test a small section first to confirm the curve.

    Hi David,

it’s supposed you are export to stl format before printing. Is the curvature problem also present in the stl file or does it only appear when printing? If the case the first, then there must be something in the cinema 4d file. If it is the second, then you could open the stl file in other program than cinema 4d, If you find everything is fine, save the file in the other program and try printing again, you could test a small part. If the problem persists, then there must be a problem with the printer or at least the print settings. I think that through these steps you could make sure where is the problem. I hope this will be useful to you.
