    Hi,

Are there any freeware/shareware out there that allows us to make a volume invisible on the desktop ?

For example, I have made a clone of my boot drive and I want to leave it inside the Mac Pro but make it invisible to the user on the desktop.

Is there a way to do this ?

in Leopard you can go to Finder / Preferences

and there are options of what you can show on the desktop.

    Hope this helps.

    thanks,

Make an Alias on the Desktop of the drive you want to be able to keep seeing,
Go to Finder>Preferences and uncheck the “Hard disks” box under “Show these Items on the desktop.”
The “real” drive icons will disappear, but the alias of the desired drive will remain, awaiting your double-click.

    Hi,

Thanks for your suggestions. But can the user still access the “invisible” volume when they make a save in the Finder window ?

Yes. The only place those drives are “invisible” is on the desktop, or in the “Desktop” folder. All drives also appear in Finder window sidebars as well (unless you choose to “Remove from Sidebar” when you right-click respective icon in a sidebar..
