I rendered a tiny portion of a video and then imported it back into the project media. I then dragged it into the timeline several times, back to back, in order to make it repeat rapidly and then continue with the original video timeline. It gave me a stuttering effect that I’ve seen numerous times in movies. Is there an easier way to do this? Thanks!

Both Excalibur and Ulimate S contain a stutter script.

OK. So I guess the way I accomplished it, is the only way to do it in Vegas Pro 9, without additional software. Is that correct?

Yes, but I don’t see why you rendered and imported. Just cut the section of video and ctrl+drag it a few times to copy it is all you should need to do.

I rendered it because I never tried doing something like this before. I guess you never pick the easiest way the first time. At any rate, I tried your suggestion and I control dragged, but I guess I’m not doing it properly. Can you elaborate please. Thanks!

Make your ‘tiny portion of video’ – actually just drop your video on the time line. Drag the ends together until you have your ‘tiny portion of video’. Then do a simple copy and paste. Place your curser over the video and highlight it, copy it, then move your curser to the last of the video and paste. Keep doing this for as many stutters as you want. You don’t have to render anything.

As Terry said you can use Cut & Paste. Ctrl+Drag is just a shortcut to copy an event.

Here is another way that’s even simpler:

    1. Open the media in the trimmer
    2. Make a selection around the small part that you want to stutter
    3. Press the Add Media From Cursor (A) button a for as many times as you want the stutter. (or just tap the ‘A’ key)

That’s about as easy as it gets. Vegas will insert the selected area every time you press the ‘A’ key.
