if I wanted to create a twinkly star, how would I go about doing that with final cut effects? there’s a glow section in the video filters, would any of those make a twinkly star out of a small round white alpha channelled photoshop file, and if so, how?

You can keyframe the opacity to wax and wane over a few frames, then copy and paste those keyframes, or render and loop the footage, to extend it.

Apple Motion comes with FCS, and has pre-made twinkly stars, very nice, ready to go.
