  • Making a ‘precomp’ layer in PS CS 2?

Is it possible to make a layer that uses a group as like a precomp like you can do with Premiere? In premiere you can import one sequence into another and alter it as a whole. Is there anyway to do this in PS? What I have and need to do is take my file that is about 900×900 and crop it to 720×480. However I don`t want to crop and save because if i need to go back and make changes i`ll be in trouble, and even cropping then undoing several times until things are right is very tedious.

Thanks to smart objects you can do this.

Just place your 900×900.psd file into your 720 x 480 file.

That is the closest way I know of to simulate the After Effects Precomp in Photoshop. This way if you need to change your first file, it will update in your 2nd file. Every other method I know of requires 2 files.

You can get rid of the original file if you really wnat to, but I find it best to keep it rather than editing the smart object through the layers palette flyout menu option.
