Making a PAL DVD
Posted by Mark Richford on June 26, 2009 at 11:53 pmI want t make a couple copies of a wedding video for my buddy’s mom in England.
SD DV NTSC project:
Got a general error when trying to export a QT with PAL settings, so I guess that was wrong.
If a change sequence settings(to PAL-DV 48) I, of course, have all kinds of cropping issues.
So what’s a mother to do. It’s simple, right? Well I don’t get it. When someone gets a minute…thanks:-)Todd Dalton replied 16 years, 10 months ago 6 Members · 12 Replies -

June 27, 2009 at 12:40 amPretty much all PAL tv’s and DVD players play NTSC. If she has a problem , you can use the Nattress Standards Converter plugin ($99) or Compressor (extremely slow, but free and good quality) to convert to PAL and make a PAL DVD.

June 27, 2009 at 12:44 amYeah, that’s what I thought. But alas, no. Will try with Compressor. Thanks

June 27, 2009 at 2:11 amYou’re pretty much wasting your time and quality. Give them an NTSC disc and you will be fine. Virtually all PAL player play NTSC discs.

June 27, 2009 at 4:10 amWhat bit rate did you encode at? Did you encode your audio to AC3
That could be an entirely different problem

No. When encoding your Quicktime in Compressor to MPEG-2 and AC3 to make your DVD.

June 28, 2009 at 10:20 amIt’s just so not true that all DVD player/screen combinations in PAL land will play NTSC discs. Some will, many will play a hybrid near-decent version (NTSC 4.43) which some screens show OK and some not, a few older players and many older screens (there are lots of them) won’t show anything at all.
From a PAL land resident!

June 28, 2009 at 3:26 pmMark,
I have done some conversion from NTSC to PAL of my kids’ dance recitals. I live in Belgium, shot multicamera and had some good footage and cut a simple video for the moms and dads.
I was able to use Compressor to convert an FCP sequence to MPEG-2 PAL imported to DVDSP to complete the project. When you get the NTSC sequence opened in Compressor, you can change the format in the Inspector window, 2nd tab, if I remember correctly.
Have you tried Compressor yet? Any luck?
