Making a nose grow
Hi, absolute newbie here. I have a clip of a person, who moves a little bit in front of the camera, and would need to make his nose grow/become bigger.
what I did was I duplicated the layer, masked out the nose, animated the mask frame by frame to match the move of the person, animated the scale, and adjusted the position of the layer.
Is this standard approach, or is there any better/quicker solution?

I’d recommend looking at the Reshape effect.

Thanks. I checked the Reshape effect, how did you mean to use it? Would I have to have 3 layers, first background, second with original nose, third with big nose, and reshape the second to third? What’s the advantage to simply scaling the nose up? Thanks

The Reshape effect uses Masks.
You’d need a Source mask that matches the nose’s original contour, a Destination mask that matches the final contour, and optionally a Boundary mask that would limit the distortion to the area it defined.
Read up on it in the online documentation. It’s pretty important to set Correspondence Points along the Source and Destination masks in order to get a usable distortion.
If the talent is moving then the Tracker2Mask script I linked to previously might help.
This would be a more involved process than the one you were using before but it can give you a more “natural” growth.
