Making a lower 3rd template using a Photoshop PNG with gradent.

Hi Steven

Once you have created a title in Titler, hit the little “T” button at upper left of Titler screen for New Title from Current Title and give it a different name. Then modify the text. By using the New Title button, you’re using the current title as a template to create the new one.

I shoot dance recitals and need to create hundreds of titles for a weekend event (multiple programs). What I do is create the first title, with text formatted the way I want it. That will be my “template” moving forward. I can insert that same title between every act when roughing out the edit. To update titles for each act, I just double-click the “placeholder” title to open Titler, click New and name it, then update the text. The last step when returning to the timeline is to right-click the title and select Replace with > Clip from Bin

The placeholder title in the timeline is replaced by the newly created title, and any effects or transitions applied to placeholder are still on the new title as well then.

I too have many of these to make (200) so this will be very helpful.

If you don’t mind, could you also explain how to get my gradient PNG to import with the transparency so it will be imported along with the title template you suggested? When I try to import it, the transparency seems to stop half way through. Half is solid and the other half is completely transparent without any gradient at all. No bueno.

I didn’t answer on the image file because I wasn’t sure what to say. But thinking about it more, make sure the image is the same size as the video frame, for instance 1920×1080. If you are using something smaller, maybe that is the issue?

As you can see, the graphic is not playing well inside of the titler and part of it is not showing (files attached).

I’ve included a screengrab, and the actual PNG file to compare.

Seems to me I’m just overlooking something, but I can’t figure it out.
I “thought” it would be drag and drop. That seems to not be the case.

Can anyone help?

I took your .png into Photoshop and it does not appear to have any transparency – the while area is solid background.

Also, the resolution is odd, being 1431×805.

I would go back to the drawing board – make a NEW image, starting at 1920×1080. Make sure to have at least 2 layers – the “Background” layer being transparent, then save as .png.

You can test a proper image by just dropping it into the Premiere timeline above a video clip – does the background show through properly? If it doesn’t work in Premiere, not going to work in Titler.

I have received a new graphic (1920×1080) in PNG format. As you can see, when I place the PNG in the titler, the last part of it is still not showing. Any idea as to why this is happing and how to correct it?

I don’t know why part of it is missing.

Again, there is no alpha channel in that PNG(it’s 24 bit), so there can be no transparency.

Simply ask for a Photoshop file(PSD). That should alleviate any misunderstanding, since the alpha channel will be there.

The titler support transparancy but not a gradient.
Why not make the template in AE and use it as a Live Text template.
