How do you make a m2v as well as the audio ac3 files in fcp pro so I can burn a dvd in imovie, when I export file to compressor there a lot of settings but I do not see m2v. ps how would you make a dvd from fcp.

mv2 is shorthand for mpeg-2. Export a QT Using Current Settings. Do not use QT Conversion. Use that file in Compressor. Apply the appropriate settings from Apple > DVD > Best Quality dependent on program length. Be sure to change the parameters in the ac3 setting as follows: in the Inspector > Encoder > Audio tab change Dialog Normalization from -27 to -31 and in the Preprocessing tab > change the Compression Preset to None. I’m not familiar with iDVD. I suggest you learn DVDSP. Read about it in the DVDSP Cow forum. It’s not hard to learn.

Don’t use Send to Compressor or Quicktime Conversion. It’s a 2-step process. First export a Quicktime from your timeline Using Current Settings. Then use that exported file in Compressor to encode the mv2 and ac3 files.

So to clarify. I make a qt with current settings of my movie even if that’s 200 gigs. Then I put it into compressor. How do I attach a separate AC3 5.1 audio file? I tried that before in compressor and it didn’t have an option to marry the audio file to the video file. I also tried this in Toast which did ask me for an audio file to compliment the M2V file when it recognized it as not having audio. This worked, but I was only able to generate a 3.5 gig M2v file using compressor and not a larger M2v file to better suite the higher quality of Blu Ray. Help!!!

Compressor makes the mv2 and the ac3 files. You use an authoring program like DVD Studio Pro to marry the 2 together to produce the DVD. You’ll find more info on the DVDSP forum.

Thanks John! I didn’t realize DVD Studio Pro could make Blu-Rays. If that’s the case it’s easy as that’s how I make my regular DVD’s with separate audio.

Sorry, I missed you wanted to make a Blu Ray. Unfortunately, DVDSP won’t work for that. However, once you have the mv2 & ac3 from Compressor I believe Toast with its Blu Ray plugin will make the disc. I’ve never been asked for a Blu Ray so I’m not an expert on that. I’ve read a lot of posts about it on the COW over the years so a search should get you more info. Walter Biscardi posted a lot about making Blu Rays.
