cc particle world is a 3d particle generator that came with ae6.5 as part of the pro bundle. if you have the pro bundle but don’t see the effect (in simulation effects), look on the original install disk in the extras folder for cycore effects, and install those

if you have cc particle world, type snow in the search field in the after effects forum and hit search. i outlined a basic setup to mimic a preset in particular for snow fall a month or 2 ago. it should be enough to get you started.

post if you have any questions…

I you are on a Mac and happen to have Motion I think the Motion preset generator for snow is the best I have used and the easiest. I created two clips with alpha, one with smaller flakes farther away and one with larger flakes that looked closer to the camera. I rendered out QT with alpha in 10 second durations….very easy to loop. The look is excellent. Soft, whispy, very organic looking flakes.

Used them as layers n an AE comp.

Give Motion a try if you have it.

I’m just recording a tutorial on that. It’s a follow-up tutorial to “Particle Playground on Fire” tutorial. It’s going to be about generating snow and making it stick to the actors and buildings and such. Pretty cool. Stay tuned. It’s comming this week i think.

    Cheers
