  • Make Sequence Clips Independent – Not Working in 5.0.3

Posted by Rory Hinds on December 9, 2005 at 8:41 pm

    Hi there

I’m back to this problem again of going from Offline to Online and Final Cut Pro not working properly.

When I select the sequence and choose “Make Sequence Clips Independent” and then do a “Media Manager” making the sequence Offline “Deleting Unused media” it still give me a Sequence that wants to capture mostly the complete tapes again.

    Anyone else having this problem?

    Thanks
    Rory

they “broke” this apparently because there were so many problems with media manager if there are speed changes, scaling clips etc. when you recapture everything it works ok.
search the fcp forums about this – there are a zillion posts
media manager has always sucked on fcp, and some say it needs arebuild from the ground up to fix it…

[Paul Provost] “media manager has always sucked on fcp, and some say it needs arebuild from the ground up to fix it…”

Yes, I agree wholeheatedly. It amazes me that this was a problem from the FCP 1 days of the Media Trimmer, and they still haven’t fixed the speed change problem. It’s actually mind-boggling, since this is all pretty simple arithmatic, which computers are widely conceded to be very good at.

My workaround FOR YEARS, has been to label all speed change clips, as well as non-captured audio (also a problem in my experience), so I can easily find where problem clips are when I do MM. Ievitably this comes in handy.

if it’s a very complex edit, I usually just recapture it all. usually faster than trying to find and fix all the problems. mostly commercials and music videos though, so not a huge amount of footage…
