  • make mpeg2 with 1024×576 resolution?

Using compressor or mpeg streamclip, how can I get a custom frame size for an mpeg2 file? I’m just seeing presets for mpeg2 (or in the case of mpeg streamclip, no mpeg2 option) for converting this file.

I have an HDV file that I want to turn into a mpeg2 at 1024×576 resolution (it’s 16×9) that I can then play on my computer and output to an lcd projector. Any suggestions on how I create an mpeg2 file with those dimensions? Need to do this today…!

    Thanks.

    Jeff,

Nope, you can’t do that. The DVD spec is very specific with regard to frame size, with 720×480 widescreen being the largest and the proper one for you in this case. The other sizes within the spec are smaller BTW, not larger…

Just to add here…there are no real specifics with MPEG2 video. It can be whatever you like but if it’s for DVD then, like David said, your limited to certain frame resolutions.

Thanks, guys. This wasn’t for DVD but simply to play a file on my computer out through an LCD projector, and I wanted to convert a 1080p file down to 1024×576, to match the resolution of the projector.

As it turned out, I just played the file at full res 1080p on the computer and they scaled it down to 1024, and it looked like a million bucks. No need to convert to MPEG at all, as it turned out, since the computer was able to play the 35 minute file full res w/no probs.
