Make her POP
Hi,
I’m editing a video in final cut.. and colour correction is definitely a weak point for me..
My subject in the attached image seems to bit dull in colour to me.. can anyone recommend a specific way using the FCP filters that I can make her POP and stand out much more?Thanks!

CRUSH those blacks. See how she is grey against the black. Drop that down. Then crank up the highlights a bit. Contrasty images have more pop! Then maybe futze with the contrast just a tad. But the main thing are those blacks and highlights. The rest of the finessing is all art.

What tool should I be using and in what way?

The 3-way color corrector. IN the way it is used. Don’t know how to Color Correct? Look in the manual for this…it shows you. Or go to Lynda.com and check out a few tutorials on it.

What keying package are you using?

I’m keying within finalcut. Using chroma key. It’s doing the trick for me.

Really? It looks kinda wavy even on the still. Your matter doesn’t look very clean. This is not because of you, but rather the tools that FCP uses. I’d suggest getting a better keyer package (search this forum and you will find links to them) that has color correction tools built in. After you pull a clean matte, you can then tweak it further as keying can take a bit out of the original image.
