    I have also used “CC pixel polly” to do this effect with text. Uses same type settings as shatter. Works quite well.

    ya gotta love the name…i used it in a title, then time-remapped to have the particles fly in horizontally and come together to compose the title.

    You could duplicate the layer 20 times and mask out a different part of the text each time, then move them apart seperately. Can you write javascript? You could write something to automate the process.

    You have to explain why you don’t want to use shatter for us to know what would be better.

    I dont have 3rd party plugin, so probably I may use other way.

    Another thing bothering me: Can javascript work for AE? I am surprised

    And 1 more question. ANy good text tutorial to learn on the internet for AE? I have learnt few from here but I want to know more

    I use CC Ball Action to make text explode. I will even have a title explode, the pieces fly out towards the camera, and then get drawn back in to form the next title.

    Check out the “scripting guide” pdf that comes on your After Effects CD. It’ll explain the idea of writing scripts for After Effects. But you should probably learn some of the basics before getting into that.
