Make a line draw along a path?

1. draw the line on a solid with the pen tool.
2. apply effect>render>stroke to the solid. Set to “only”, not “in original”.
3. animate the end point of the stroke effect.

but what If I wanna use a curved line that goes from point to point ?

Draw the curved path with the pen tool. Check the manual for that.
