make 2 layers into a nested comp…
Posted by Rich Camp on September 30, 2010 at 5:48 amI have 2 layers and I want to put them into their own comp and nest it in their place. how can i do this? Thanks

In AE this is known as ‘pre-composing’ – Select the layers you want to nest, hit ‘Layer’ in the top menu and select “Pre-compose’ (all the way down, right at the bottom). Or use the shortcut Cmd-Shift-C for mac / Cntrl-Shift-C on PC.
This will move the selected layers to an intermediary comp and leave you with a new layer in it’s place in your current timeline.

September 30, 2010 at 1:00 pmIn After Effects, this is called precomposing. Select the two layers and press Cmd-Shift-C on a Mac, or Ctrl-Shift-C on a PC.
