I have a long line of 3d text that when i turn the camera at a certain angle it disappears. it’s like it has to be a severe angle to be viewed. And now i’m not turning the angle around so the text is point the oppsite direction. When I’m at a 20 degree angle it can’t be viewed. Then i turn it to 80 degrees it can be viewed. I’m under a severe deadline and would be SO appreciative if any had any solutions. Thanks!

Most likelyy your layer is too large. AE will clip the pixel buffer for it if it needs to display too much of the layer at a time. You need to split it up into sub-compsand then maybe re-assemble it. Could also be an OpenGL problem, so switch to the old adaptive resolution preview to verify.

AE is pseudo 3D, more like 2D 1/2, but actually is still 2D – especially when you hit a POV that doesn’t see the layer.
It sounds like you’ve got a few things happening with rotation/orientation across one or more layers.

    I suggest that you :
    1) Duplicate the text layer
    2) Offset its position by 1 pixel – it could be either of the X, Y, or Z property. It depends on the POV. Only you will know if it works by giving it a good eyeball.

Step 2 above will artificially give your text layer an extrusion effect so that it doesn’t disappear from view. If it looks decent, you may want to duplicate more layers and offset subsequent duplicates by 1 pixel from its ‘copy’.

Before you perform Step 2, you will want to select all the keyframes (if there are any) for the axis that you want to affect with the 1-pixel offset. This way, you will offset the layer for the duration of its entire path.

thanks for the help. I just went back to a older file and used it. For some reason when using long lings of 3d text the computer slows to a crawl. I have a G4 at work which is having the problems, but at home on my AMD it floats right thru it. The effect has to be done, because it’s a bunch of news promos and they all need to look the same, and of course some are already airing!:) It’s taking nearly 12 minutes a frame to render and the only thing on screen is 6 lines of 3d text. Any suggestions, workarounds, any help at all will be great!
