  • Maintaining stroke width for dashed strokes when scaling with parent

Posted by Tom Straw on November 25, 2024 at 5:05 pm

Hi, been having this problem for weeks and not worked out a solution yet, would love to get anyones thoughts, I have an illustrator file with lots of different vector strokes that I need to maintain their stroke width but also the dashes length/distance when this is scaled up by a parented control null.

This is simple enough for a regular non-dashed line as i just convert the vector layer to shapes and apply an expression to main the stroke width, I can’t work out how to keep a dashed line consistent however and encounter all sorts of issues with everything I try

    Any suggestions welcome!

How complex are your dashed paths? Are they simple shapes or complex?

Very complex, normally country borders of a map

Fixed. Realised it was the Gap property on dashes that was messing me up, for reference this is the expression I used:

dashValue = 10; // Replace this with your base dash length

    dashValue / (thisLayer.parent.scale[0] / 100)
