  • Maintain HDV aspect ratio on export to Comressor H264 LAN….?

Posted by Joe Murray on October 29, 2007 at 11:38 pm

I can’t work out what I’m doing wrong, because I’ve done it 20 times before.
But I think I’ve always used different work around.
When exporting my 1080 50i project to Compressor it is coming out streched to full height – ie anamorphic.
How do I keep it letterboxed in a 4×3 movie?

    and

What is the simplest method to get the correct aspect ratio on export?

You want your movie letterboxed, so is a 16×9 on top of a 4×3 screen with two black bands, on top and down. isn’t it?
To get that you must edit your 16×9 film, and when finished set the 16×9 secuence on top of a 4×3 sequence. There is not other way.
If you are exporting a movie 16×9 and look wrong when played with QT, do this:
    – Comm-J (properties)> Video track> Visual setting…
Them uncheck “Preserve Aspect Ratio” and change the “Scaled Size” values as you need it.

You can achieve 3:4 letterbox by using Compressor’s Letterbox Filter

View your encoding setting in the inspector . Select tab for Filters (4th from the left) and check the letterbox filter. Set Type = Scale, Position = Center, Output = 16 x 9. In the Geometry tab set the Frame size to your desired output size (eg. 640×480, 320×240, etc.) This works for me.
