Magic Wand Trail
What is the best way to create that effect as if you waved a magic wand and the sparkly dust leaves a trail. Im sure someone else probably asked this as well.

Have you tried the filter Particle Playground?it can simulate that effect.

Here’s the easiest I know of, another from Rick Gerard, comes with aep:

You can make the particles smaller with Scatter, jazz it up with Glow, change the colors, tweak away.
Another Cow solution is by Dan Ebbert’s (one of my favorites), make your own dust particles in Photoshop, then go to the moving emitter 1 and 2 comps here:

Particle Illusion SE is good for 30 days fully functional and has many presets.
