[Scratch Sperber] “I prefer list mode, but our workflow requires us to see all the clips.”

In case you’re not aware of it, you can map Toggle Filmstrip/List View to the keyboard. So it’s very fast to switch back and forth between the modes.

[Scratch Sperber] “2 – In filmstrip view in the browser, long clips in the browser wrap around to the next line. When my mouse hits the end of line 1, I have to move it down to the beginning of line to continue skimming the clip. Crazy annoying.”

I hear you! I find this crazy annoying as well. Especially because iMovie 11 (only that version) had continuous skimming. When you reached the end of the line the pointer was jumping one line below at the beginning.

I just tried it, you still can go through all your content in the viewer in iMovie 11 and skim continuously. This actually works the best with a trackball. But it probably would work as well with the Magic Mouse.

All FCP only users. You REALLY have to try this in iMove 11. Press Caps Lock to activate it. This has to be seen to believe. This is is insanely useful. I really have a hard time with FCPX because I miss this feature so much.

Continuous PLAYBACK does not really help. I want continuous skimming!

Do you have Motion to create your templates with different published parameters you can change for different shows in FCP X?

I bailed on FCPX entirely; we went to Adobe Premiere Pro CC. Much easier transition and meets our needs better. Mouse scrolls fine there too. Thanks for the help and suggestions, everyone; see you on the other side!

Have fun with that. Mouse scrolls may work great to speed up your workflow, but other things will probably slow you down in the long run. Click away.
