    Hi all,
I’m after a bit of advice. I originally posted this on the main After Effects forum a while back but no one responded.
I am planning on doing a scene with a magic carpet. The begining starts with the subject taking out a rolled up carpet/rug and kind of unraveling it infront of him and as he lets go it hovers in the air a couple of feet above the ground. I thought about having a side view as he does this so you can get all the rug in the shot and the subject.
I’m wondering how best to do this. I have a few ideas but hopefully you guys can point me in the right direction.

My first thought was to green screen it all and have a large box in front of the subject covered in the green screen material so as he lets go it will land on the box and i can key it all out and put on my background. Then mask it off and add an effect to make it slightly ripple in the air.

Another idea was to somehow use Andrew Kramers Time Freeze tutorial on Videocopilot.net.

Once i have this shot mastered i’m thinking about maybe having a heat haze under the carpet as it hovers off the ground. I have a tutorial i can adapt for this from one of Trish & Chris Meyers Books.

So any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated.

I don’t know if this would help but Zaxwerks has a plug-in that is called Flag that may give you some more control over your carpet.
