    Hi all…

I’m using Vegas 6 on a Intel 3ghz with a gig of ram… only Vegas is running… at about 65% of processor usage… I’m trying out Magic Bullet HD (basic preset) for the first time…

The project is consists of a five or six video clips with dissolves between… total length of project is about 28 minutes… no other filters *audio or video* are running…

It started out saying it would take about 90 minutes (after the first 10 percent of the project was rendered)… (after I checked it again about 30 minutes it said it would take about 7 more hours) after rendering for 5 hours… still 7 more hours… but it is 42% completed)

The material is slowly zooming slides (burns look – created with ultimate2 and rendered into the avi clips), as far as I know Ultimate2 is not running, as I did not choose any thing else) and started it as a new project… all color correction was done at the slide stage… the color corrected (still motion) slides were rendered into avi clips and then dropped into DVFILM and transformed into 30p… so it’s only 5 or 6 very clean avi clips

Magic Bullet HD (basic preset) seemed like it added a teeny bit… so I thought I try it…

This seems like a very slow render…

    Thanks,

    Steve

Rendering using Magic Bullet is slow.

    Wow…

I guess this is one of those video production things that are best taught by applying a 2 x 4 to side of my head…

Yeah it renders slowly… 28 to 1 by my feeble calculations… I’m sure it must have added something… I’ve only got a 32″ monitor tho… I’ll have to keep looking…

What I want to do… is get rid of those pesky thin line horizontal flickers…

the slides I’m using start as jpgs (not my choice, but at least they are scanned at around 1800 lines of resolution),

then I color correct the Jpgs,
then resave the color corrected slides as PNG’s
then pan and scan for the “Burns Look”
render those slides as an avi…
and convert that video into 30p avi material in DVFILM… (so far DVFILM is the winner for conversion to
Progressive in terms of quality and speed)

Once I learn a bit more about Magic Bullet, perhaps it will be useful… but at 28 to 1 renders, I’ll
stick to my present work flow for this project.

If anyone has any hints, I’m all ears… OK they are a bit swollen from the 2 x 4, but I am listening.

Remember that Magic Bullet only simplifies the application of the looks. Generally speaking, they can be manually duplicated using the standard Vegas effects (using multiple effects) and these would render much faster. However, it would take a while to get the right sequence of effects and the right settings for those effects.
