magic bullet looks tracking function?
so from messing around with the demo of the new magic bullet looks app….it’s nice….but i can’t find any tracking/keyframing options.
there seems to be some basic masking function as per colorista.
for tracking say a spot exposure on a persons face throughout a scene, would the workflow be as follows
1. one instance of MB looks as a primary CC
2. second instance of MB looks for the spot exposure and then use the power windows to keyframe that look over timehow are other people using looks?

This is exactly how I use any CC tool in FCP. Always balance with the first layer of the filter. Then apply 1 – 3 more layers of it depending on how much work I need to do to the shot. You always want to do small incremental changes in each filter to have more control.

hey walter,
yes i guess more what i’m getting at is the above method the best workflow for ‘tracking’ certain aspects of each MB CC layer over time ie spot exposures or blurs for faking shallow DOF.
obviously if you cant move those over time the shots dont look right as in the case of a spot exposure the bright spot doesnt follow the subject in the frame.
just asking if there might be a better way using this tool set.

Yep, use the second or third instance to do any of the masking for tracking areas. I usually do this on the very last layer of the filter.

i guess there’s always colour….it has from the spec sheet anyway…pretty advanced tracking capabilities…..yet another piece of software to learn!!!

And it’s free with Studio 2. Just pick up my DVD and you’ll be running the Color interface in no time. It’s actually quite easy to use, just intimidating to look at.

If you’re trying to do something quick, then download the colorista demo. That works pretty much identically to the 3Way that you already know, but it’s much cleaner.
You just need to bring down the brights above 100 with the Proc Amp or CC first before using it. It clips everything above 100 right now and though they are working to fix this issue, it might actually be an Apple thing causing it.

yes colorista is my main CC tool at the moment. I’ve been playing with the demo of MB looks and like it a lot…it was just the lack of elegant tracking features that had me wondering about whether to purchase or not.
I’m working on a DV project at the moment and its not as clean as i would have liked….though to be honest I think it has more to do with the less than stella DV codec than Colorista.
