    Hi all,

Has anyone used Denoiser in FCP prior to sending to Color? Is the round trip alright? Any issues from Color?

    Thanks.

Are you aware that Color has a denoiser?

    Don’t liked here.
Neither the Nattress De-noiser for Color.

Don’t know the MB de-noiser, but those guys make good software.
    I use (and recommend) NeatVideo.

    David,

Yes, I am aware of Color’s denoiser and the Nattress denioser. The thing is my client is using Magic Bullet’s Denoiser in FCP. I’m just curious if there any gotcha’s regarding round trip. I’ve been told the clips in FCP using MB’s Denoiser should be converted to self-contained QTs. Aka, baked-in.

    Thanks.

Any plugin will be ignored by going to Color and then re-applied to the Color render file after the round trip. So if you want to denoise before grade then bake the file by making a quicktime (* handles) of the shots.

It might look better to denoise post grade. A few test shots might be tried to see if that is the case.

    No really.
There is a noticeable difference when the de-noising is done on the raw footage before any modification.
In my experience, the denoising works better and the post CC works better too. Even masks or the Eye Dropper works better.

Applications like NetVideo are based on discovering and analyzing typical noise patterns (camera, systems,..).
CC alter those patters depending of the kind of correction you apply.
However de-noising before grading complicates the workflow very much.
