I’m considering making the trek to MacWorld.

Has anyone been and taken one of the Power Tools sessions? Is it really worth the money. I’ve been trying to find reviews and could only find one that said she would never take another one again.

    Any opinions?

    Thanks

I think any of these sessions attendance satisfaction is based on expectations.

Steve Martin, for example, is a truly knowledgeable FCP guru no doubt, and he’s a great speaker… HOWEVER YOUR NOT going to learn FCP in depth in 2 days… Heck I’ve a 5 day Pro Training class that doesn’t cover it all. (just “level 1” stuff) The software is just too deep…

What class are you interested in, and what do you expect to come away with? If it were me, I’d look at a class on software that I know NADA about. Then the “intro length” presentations make perfect sense… right?

You make sense, I suppose I am trying to gauge what my expectations should be, as I don’t really have any…yet.

I am transitioning to FCP from a windows platform and would like to hit the ground running so to speak. I’ve used Sony Vegas primarily, but also Avid MC to some extent.

I guess I would be upset if I paid $1000 and just got the same speech I could have listened to through lynda.com tutorials for example.

I think I’ve made up my mind that it is probably not worth the $ paid, for my instance as I do not have $100 bills to burn.

    Thanks for the input.

I find the Lynda.com subscription to be invaluable.

The tutorials are great but really don’t replace a person in the room you can ask questions of… I think you would jumpstart your learning taking the classes… If you’re already using NLE’s your questions of the presenter would be informed as it were and his answers may get you going a lot faster than tutorials. I think both are good myself, and you’ll get a better start with the teacher in the room I think.
