One thing I have always known over the years of using tools from both Adobe and Macromedia, is that Adobe’s care and respect for their customer base was superlative while Macromedia’s was always based more on a “Let’s get all we can” way of thinking.

This latest upgrade pricing debacle can be squarely laid at the feet of the new head of Adobe’s dynamic media applications department, who hails from the Macromedia side and this moves clearly stinks of Macromedia and is very uncharacteristic of Adobe.

I have little doubt who made this decision, and it clearly wasn’t made from those on the Adobe side.

Thanks Macromedia and welcome to Adobe.

Sadly, the results described are all too recognisable to me. Macromedia, of course, had a very dominant market position with once with Freehand, then with Director, now with Flash. There’s a little more competition in the video tools arena … anyone seen Jashaka …?

Maybe those guys will do a good job in the end …
