MacPro 8 core vs 12 core
Does anyone have advice on which Mac Pro would be better to edit 4k with Final Cut? I have a budget for either the 8 or 12 core, but is there really a significant time saving in the workflow. I’m interested in special effects and rendering time saving. Thanks in advance for any response. (Hope I’m posting this in the right forum)

Please clarify, are asking about FCP 7 (this forum), or FCP X (not this forum)?
And, are you asking about a new Mac Pro (cylinder), or a used Mac Pro (tower)?

I am working with final cut 7 and an old G5, but my question relates to Final Cut Pro x and the new “Cylinder” Mac Pro as I want to upgrade. I will post this on the Final Cut Pro X. Thank You for responding,

FCP 7 can’t edit 4K. It’s also not multi-threaded. The biggest gain is the graphics card. It’s also 32 bit so a significant amount of ram won’t help either. If you are future proofing and can afford a 12 core machine, go for it, otherwise 8 cores is fine.
