MacOS X 10.4.7: Blackmagic Codec Installation Problem
I downloaded the Blackmagic Codec from the Blackmagic-Design website today and tryed to install the Codec on my new Intel MacBook Pro with MacOS X 10.4.7 and QuickTime Pro 7.1.2.
I copyed the unzipped codec component into the ‘/Library/QuickTime directory” folder.
The Blackmagic Codec doesn’t show up in the export options in QuickTime.My first Question:
In the Readme.rtf is written: ‘…copy “Blackmagic Codec.component” into the /Library/QuickTime directory’
the filename after unzipping the ‘Blackmagic_Codec_OSX.zip’ file is: ‘Blackmagic Software Codec.component’ and not ‘Blackmagic Codec.component’. Could this be a prolem?Then I did what is written in the Readme.rft file:
‘* Do a Get Info on the QuickTime folder, located at /Library/QuickTime, and note the Modified Date & Time.
* in Terminal type in the following commands and then quit from Terminal:
sudo su [press Return, enter your password and press Return again]
cd /Library [press Return]
touch QuickTime [press Return and then quit from Terminal]
* Do another Get Info on the QuickTime folder located at /Library/QuickTime and ensure that the Modified Date & Time has changed to now.’This changed the Date and Time of the folder /Library/QuickTime. But still the the Blackmagic Codec doesn’t show up in the export options in QuickTime.
Then I tryed to do what is written in the Readme.rft file:
‘If this still doesn’t work, try dropping “Blackmagic Codec.component” in to the same, equivalent location in your Home directory, ie ~/Library/QuickTime.’But I can’t find the folder ‘Home directory, ie ~/Library/QuickTime.’.
Dear Blackmagic Team, what do I do wrong?
Is there someone else whith this installation problem?Yves

Hi,
The downloaded codec is not universal binary so it will not work in your Intel Mac.
I would recommend you download our latest driver, install it and you’ll get access to the Apple 4:2:2 Uncompressed codec instead from the Quicktime Export options. They are Universal Binary.

Your answer is a bit confusing.
What is universal binary? The Mac drivers? Or the Apple 4:2:2 Uncompressed codec? Or both?My target is to convert my archive of Blackmagic encoded QuickTime movies to QuickTime movies for the web in the H264 Codec.

Yes, I can see why this is confusing. We’ll get this one clarified.

The Apple 4:2:2 Uncompressed codec is Universal Binary and you should be able to open your Blackmagic encoded clips with Quicktime if you have the Apple codecs installed.
