I’m looking to upgrade one of my FCP edit stations, but I can’t decide which to replace first. I’m doing more editing on the road, so the new MacBook Pro has some appeal…my question is could I use my two 30″ Cinema displays with the laptop when I’m back at my studio? Not sure if it can drive more than one.

    Hi James,
When you can not afford to have two computer, that’s the perfect way to go.
In my studio I mount a nice rig with my MBP.
I put the MBP as second monitor at the left of my Dell-24″. At the right I have a Pro monitor. Just need a keyboard and you forget you are using a laptop.
An eSATA RAID and the AJA ioHD, and I have everything I need.
Not sure, but I think that two 30″” screens may be too much for that GPU. Even if works, that would reduce very much the performance, and in the best case will slow down very much all the GPU based processes affecting rendering speed for fxplugins, Color, Motion, etc.
