MacBook Pro hard drive, RAM, external drive & where to buy?
Hello,
I am considering buying one of the new MacBook Pro 17″ models for several functions including Final Cut Studio editing and I just have a couple of questions:
1) I noticed that there are three MacBook Pro hard drive configurations – 100GB/7200 speed, 160GB/5400 speed and 200GB/4200 speed. For working with FCS, I assume the capture scratch and render files should be on an external drive, probably optimumly in this case a FW800 drive. If this is the case, does it matter what the speed of the MacBook Pro drive is if just the FCS project files are on it?
2) I noticed that the RAM quantity is 2GB that the MacBook Pro comes with but I have heard that you can add 1GB to total 3GB to max out the new MacBook Pro. I know 4GB seems to be the magic number for FCS on desktops. Are there any tricks or things to consider if I do add an additional GB?
3) Can anyone recommend an external drive to edit with the MacBook Pro?
4) Can anyone recommend where to buy this at the best price and/or deal? I’ll probably purchase it during the last week of the year.
Thanks in advance!
